This year, Routeique had the opportunity to attend CIFAR's Deep Learning + Reinforcement Learning (DLRL) Summer School.
Key Takeaways:
The event covers the foundational research, new developments, and real-world applications of deep learning and reinforcement learning.
There were 150 participants and 24 speakers.
A member of Routeique's team attended this event and attended in-depth sessions on cutting-edge AI and ML topics, in addition to networking with renowned experts in this space.
Established in 1982, the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR) is an organization that brings together teams of top researchers from around the globe with the aim of addressing important and complex questions. CIFAR's focus spans 15 major areas, ranging from bio-inspired solar energy to quantum materials.
One of these areas includes AI and Machine Learning.
Each year since 2005, CIFAR has held the Deep Learning + Reinforcement Learning (DLRL) Summer School, which "brings together graduate students, post-docs, and professionals to cover the foundational research, new developments, and real-world applications of deep learning and reinforcement learning." Mila, Vector Institute, and Amii host this event.

"AI's capabilities reshape how we perceive automation and human interaction in today's rapidly evolving landscape," says Routeique's Ops Research Scientist Gregory Roy. "(...) As we delve deeper into AI's journey, pondering its goal-setting abilities and our role within, we unveil a paradigm where AI not only masters actions in the physical realm but also recruits us to enact its designs. The CIFAR summer school echoes this transformative era, exploring AI's potential and ethical dimensions, thereby enlightening participants about the boundless opportunities and considerations in this ever-evolving landscape."
Our CEO and Co-Founder, Mike Allan, also highlighted that our partnership with the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute was a key part of being able to attend this important event where key experts from around the world were converging on one location.
"We are so honored to be able to be part of the CIFAR schools and have our representative Greg attend, Huge thanks to our partners at AMII," says Mike Allan, our CEO and Co-Founder, "we wouldn't be where we are today with AI-focused events if it wasn't for them."
Through our work with AMII and Scale, we are getting incredible results on AI and machine learning and giving our AI and ML engineering team, our development team, and our product teams exposure to the latest and cutting-edge insights.
